Felonies
Felony crimes can result in the most serious consequences in our society, and a conviction can result in a substantial loss of one's freedom and privilege. A criminal defendant has the right to be represented by counsel and the right to a jury of twelve of his/her peers. In many cases, a person who has been charged with a felony is required to remain in custody during the pendency of the case. Each defendant has a right to a speedy trial within 60 days if he is held in custody. When representing those charged with felony crimes, we recognize that our clients expect and deserve a vigorous defense. Every effort is made to explore and utilize legal defenses available and to protect the rights of the accused. In every case, client confidentiality is guaranteed. In some felony cases involving drug charges, the Clark County Superior Court has instituted a "Drug Court" which provides some defendants treatment and an alternative to a jail sentence. The Drug Court is still in its early stages, but reports positive results.
